STATE OF THE MACHIKA

After apping Leo and seeing how much drama he has in 2 months as compared to the 6 months Machika has been in camp, I was like, gosh, Machika is easy. (Or Elliot is just difficult.)

And then Zero asked for relationship and I realized she’s not simple either, whoopsie. So this is me organizing my thoughts on Machika being Machika. It counts as a SOTU okay.

Machika is a very active person. She can sit around and do nothing, but she doesn’t want to. Sitting and knitting or playing video games is okay, because it’s still doing something. Reading books is pretty good too, if it’s not for a long period of time. Talking to people is always good—she likes people! lol what are pings, my two characters are completely different. The point is, she wants to do things.

This is the positive and negative thing about camp. There are things to do, but she has to look for them sometimes. After 6 months, it’s getting kind of boring. And that boredom leads to frustration, because she wants to be DOING something. Camp is a stagnate place, and Machika is always looking to move forward. So she kind of works through this by being pushy with her friends and wanting to do something always. ASSUME SHE IS ALWAYS HANGING OUT WITH YOU, FRIENDS AND/OR MENTORISH ADULT FIGURES. When she is not with Rain, idek where Rain is half of the time in camp. I bet he gets lost in the cornfields a lot and Machika finds him a few hours later somehow stuck in a fridge in the kitchens.

At first, camp was a great opportunity. Both of my immortals are stuck here with me! I can find a way to fix (loose term) them and rub it in Yuca’s face, hah! With so many people from so many different worlds here, someone has got to know something! OPTIMISM OPTIMISM OPTIMISM. Camp was a wonderful place for her. And she established a lot of CR early on, so she was thrilled to make friends and explore camp and do dumb things. Productivity could occur all around, and she could still go back home at some point and see everyone again.

And then she and Alice did a thing where they asked campers for information, and while they learned a lot they didn’t really find a way to fix their problems. It was a little disheartening! But she wasn’t expecting to find a solution, so she didn’t let it get her down. So they dove into the library to look around, and that…also did not work. They still learned things, but solutions were not to be had. She still takes a little time at least once a week to browse the library for something helpful, but she is not expecting any results.

But! In spite of all this, even though it’s not what she was hoping for, Machika is not depressed or giving up. Leto is solely to thank for this, because he basically said “Rain and Yuca will get their ends eventually” which Machika interpreted as “they’ll be mortal eventually so don’t worry about it”. In her mind she has also interpreted this to mean that she will still be alive when this happens and they can all have happy funtimes together. Shhhh let me live in my denial you guys. It’s frustrating to not get what she wants right now, but she is willing to wait.

Somewhere along the road she put the “fixing immortality thing” off to the side. Not completely—it’s still something that’s always on her mind and something she is still striving towards—but she isn’t expecting anything. Things are stagnate in camp, so Rain and Yuca aren’t going anywhere anyways. Instead, she is focusing her energy on her friends! Which is where Zero comes in. Machika just wants to be active and do something productive, and Zero provided an unwitting opportunity for that by saying he was keeping an eye on the vampires in camp. Goodie, it’s something to DO! It’s something to achieve. She likes having goals. Finding Rain, fixing immortality, finishing a scarf, beating the final boss—they’re all goals that she can focus on.

This all ties back into her selfishness. She tells Yuca that she’s selfish in one chapter, and at first it’s not really something you can believe. But then you look again and realize that she’s telling the truth! In canon, she does not do anything without it helping her in some way. She rescues some guy and then asks for payment so she can get on a boat to find Rain. Although, to be fair, saving him was an impulsive way to vent her frustrations and help the crying girl get her lover back, because that’s something Machika could empathize with. But then it turned into something that she could use for her advantage, and she took that opportunity without hesitation. I mean, she does nice things too, I’m not saying she doesn’t. But the end result is because it makes her happy in some way. She’s selfish! She knows she’s selfish. She’s just selfish in an unselfish way, sometimes—and that’s because she feels empathy for people too. She wants people to be happy so she can be happy; because even if she can’t get a happy ending, they can.

So her selfishness and activeness in camp is all being directed towards HELPING FRIENDS. And Zero was an innocent bystander in that and got topped by a puppy. :’)

And gosh darn it, everyone has problems in camp. Some of them she knows she can’t fix. A LOT of them she knows she can’t fix. But the least she can do is be there for the people she cares about. There are so many people in camp with sucky lives and she wants to HELP THEM. Not jesus, really, because she gets that jesusing is not something everyone wants/needs. But she wants to be there for them and help them however she can—the problem being that everyone is from different worlds and has different problems and she’s not sure how to relate to that. BUT. I’LL BE HERE FOR YOU. Goddamn, she’ll even be there for Jade because Luke and Rain topped her into it. Not that he needs it because he is a huge troll, but whatever. If you need hugs, Jade, you can have hugs. I will regret that later. There are only like, two people who can’t have hugs ever.

As dumb as it is, this is why she doesn’t mind being a puppy. Shush telepaths, you didn’t hear that. 8| Outwardly she complains and man it sucks not having thumbs, but being a puppy is like giving people hugs. Puppies make people happy! Everyone has been saying she’s adorable and petting her and all that good stuff. And if that puts a smile on someone’s face or makes their day better, well, then that’s just fine. Even when everyone else has been going back to normal and she’s stuck as a tiny puppy, she’s just kind of whatever about it. Complaining about a complete lack of thumbs is just a reflex to remind people “hey I am a cute adorable puppy you should pay attention to me and do things for me because this puppy will make you smile”. It is the best plan, okay, shut up.

Random tangent, getting turned into a kid twice already makes Machika miss Grandfather more. :( (Psssst someone app him.) But that is really the only lasting effect that camp things have had on her. Stupid stuff happens, she gets over it and moves on and HEY LOOK MY FRIENDS ARE OVER THERE LETS HANG OUT. One of the things I love about her is that it is so hard to keep her down, because she is determined to bounce back. If something happens that she doesn’t like, she deals with it. So. Zero, getting attacked by robopire when Machika is a puppy and can’t do anything except be a cute puppy will go wonderfully except now she wants to kill Magmahead Megamind dead. OTHER THAN THAT, things are not as terrible as they could be.

…Machika has the same amount of issues as Leo but she is better at dealing with them so it’s not as complicated the end.

STATE OF THE ME:

I love Machika for being Machika and not being as difficult and anti-social as Leo. I’m comfortable playing her, although I haven’t canon-reviewed in a while so I feel like I’ve been winging it for a little bit. I will remedy that now that it’s summer, I would feel dumb if I need to retcon things I just said. All of her CR is magic and everything is rainbows when I make her life frustrating and difficult. Actually its rainbows no matter what I do. I want to read the last chapter of Immortal Rain so bad…!

Leo is so much fun and a bundle of crazy and I need to get him to thread with people not Elliot, even though all I want to do is thread with Elliot. How do you build CR when you’re reading all the time, Leo!! 8| But he has been talking to other people which is cool, so I am not disappointed in that or anything. Gosh I am still super antsy about am I playing him right, say I am doing him justice and eventually I will just stop letting my anxieties overwhelm me and just play. Canon, keep being awesome for me.

I’m still trying to figure out how to multi-task two characters, and some days I’m awesome at it while others I flop. Half of this depends on whether or not my computer wants to let me load LJ fast or slow, because some days it is way too much of a hassle to switch journals so I just stick with either Leo or Machika the whole time. I WILL TRY TO PICK ALL THREADS UP, SUPER PROMISE. Weekends I will be sporadically missing thanks to my family enjoying vacation time with each other and it varies whether or not the places we go have internet. I also promised myself that I would work on stories so I can be a writer and get paid all the monies!! Or, you know, not starve when I graduate. So I might not be on as much over the summer if I actually have willpower. This is not because I love camp less, but because I must face real life more.

Alright, ignore this massive wall of text and go back to your regularly scheduled camp.
